Songs for the bad days

For those of you who have been following my journey lately or have spoken to me in person, you know that the last month has been extremely difficult for me personally and professionally. I worked more than I should have, felt the burden of self doubt, skipped or shortened more runs than I’m proud of, and have been mostly just trying to get through it all.

The one thing I can always count on to make things better and to get me through a run at the end of a long day is some good tunes. So I’ve put together my top 5 favorite songs that I’ve been cranking up on the runs that fall at the end of the hardest days.

1. Canyon Moon - Andrew McMahon

I don’t know how he does it, but Andrew McMahon seems to have a song that just fits for every moment of my life. This song came on completely at random at the gym the other day and it helped me finish a pretty grueling speed workout. After another day of feeling the weight and self doubt of so many things, it was exactly what I needed to finish strong. “Take all your troubles, put them to bed.”

2. Miracles - Coldplay

Okay, I haven’t seen the movie “Unbroken” yet but after hearing this song, which is on the soundtrack, I definitely want to. You’d think it’d be the lyrics that get me most on the hard days, and typically it is, but for me, this song's instrumentals are actually more inspiring. Maybe I’m just a sucker for some good piano and acoustic guitar. I listen to this song on almost every run now and it always makes me think harder and breathe easier after.

3. One Foot - Walk the Moon

“One foot in front of the other.” That should be my life motto these days. Just a good, inspirational tune when you feel like giving up.

4. The Runners - The Naked and the Famous

One of my all time favorites to run too! I've had this song on my playlist for a while. It's also a great song to run in the rain to. Plus the music of TNAF in general is so inspiring and great to run too. Definitely check them out if you don't know them!

5. Cannot Do This Alone - Colony House

A new find but definitely a good one! And just what I need to hear at the end of a long day.

Those are my top 5 favorite songs to run to right now. If you want to hear more faves, check out my Spotify playlist: Let's Run.
